Choose any 3 questions from the booklet to answer in complete sentences:
d) Create a sketch under your journal of a symbolic logo or character that represents empowerment for your younger self. In other words, something that you think could have inspired you to challenge yourself, try something new, or inspire your best self.
*For example, I would have loved to have a Canadian soccer super star OR a muscle man super athlete that is known for his intellectual abilities instead of his strength. I know my daughter would love a dancing super hero...what might that look like.
*Watch "Encanto for inspiration on the metaphor of having our own "super powers" and seeing the best in ourselves.
Journal 5: Watch the following video and choose ONE of the concepts to expand on HOW they truly embody EMPOWERMENT of Indigenous Peoples. Be sure to reference the video and/or person from the video AND HOW you found what they were doing as empowering and inspirational for others. Conclude by referencing another example that you have seen before on Tic Tok or You Tube or a live performance or even film where children and other members of that particular community could be inspired and empowered to be proud of their culture/background/heritage. "When you love your culture proud and strong, you love yourself!"

a) Take notes on both the films "The Hurricane" and "The Grizzlies" or the film you have permission to watch on your own. TEMPLATE for a MOVIE REVIEW
b) Use the provide template for the movie review to take your notes and then write a complete paragraph that address the following guiding questions:
-Brief Summary
-Interesting/Important character profile
-Powerful/Impactful scenes
-Theme/frustration explained
-Stylistic Choices that are effective for you as viewer :
*Include at ONE stylistic choice by the writer or director of the film.

Assignment: Write a Informative or Persuasive or Motivational Speech/Rant
Note: Your speech or rant should be supported with quotations from both your chosen novel AND from at least 2 exterior sources. (one or two that we did in class would be great) Consider the following types of topics as a guideline:
-Empowerment though culture
-Equality and Equity
-Everyone must follow their own path
-Indigenous Stereotypes
-How to create change
-Seeing people through a different lens (The homeless man, abused woman, the neglected child)
-Indigenous circumstances and history
-Life on the Rez: The importance of having a home
a) Choose a topic and create an outline page that includes: quotes from your novel and exterior readings that support the topic, how will you hook the audience (read hook notes), 3 ways you will address the topic? AND...
How will you conclude in the way that demonstrates your stance and makes the audience think.
b) Watch some of the videos posted by your peers and read some of the quotes or look some up. (You may want to include a quote or two) Note the way that they organize their speeches and how they personalize their stance!

d) Begin writing your rough copy or outlined script for you to read from as your record your rant/speech.
e) Record yourself delivering this speech and attach the video in assignments of Teams with your journals, notes/outline.
Criteria: It must have the following:
*an engaging hook *a clear stance on your chosen topic *support from your novel and exterior sources
*enthusiasm and passion/tone in your voice for the topic *3 min. max
