Class debate on various topics (If you choose to write a forms piece instead you may observe the debate and reflect on it.

Practice with the symbolism of "The Shell"

e) Read the poem "The Shell" and make notation/annotation on devices, main idea and symbolism
f) Create a supported outline for how the shell symbolically establishes, unity, order and leadership
Read chapter 2: Complete all related notes and readings.
Question: What does "the fire" represent in regards to how they are functioning as a society?
Read chapters 3-4:
Analysis: Simon and Jack > a) How does Simon symbolize a motherly or "Jesus" like figure to the boys on the island in Chapters 2-4. Consider the following quotes to explain your rational and be sure to have a thesis and conclusion.
"We used his specs...he helped that way." (p42)
"...Simon found them the fruit they could not reach,..." (p56)
Simon is one with the earth (p57)

Chapter 8: How does Golding imply that, "Every individual, however strong his/her instinct for civilization and order, has an undeniable, innate drive toward savagery as well?" Conclude or open with a experience based question.

Read and listen to the lyrics of the song, "Sympathy for the Devil" and complete the poetry notation we have been practicing in class. Then answer the following question. When would this song kick in if it were to be played in a modernized version of the movie? Explain your rational using reference to the LOTF and at least one lyric from the song to emphases and support your idea. Conclude your explanation with reference to the title of the song and how it contributes to the overall understand of the novel.

Topics to write of speak about in conclusion of the novel:
Toxic masculinity, why girls weren’t included in this world, or about the boys’ pressure to turn violent, or about the concept of fear and war in the world.
